(Review) JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 3: Stardust Crusaders

Overview/Synopsis

"Stardust Crusaders" makes up the third part and second and third seasons of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. This part follows Jotaro Kujo and his group on their journey to Egypt so they can defeat the villain Dio. Weirdly, the group is called the Stardust Crusaders but it's never actually said in the series.

Dio has awakened the power of the 'Stand', which is basically a spirit that has a special power, and in turn from doing this he has awakened Stands in the bloodline of the Joestars. This happens because he stole the body of Jonathan Joestar, the hero of Part 1, so his descendants inherited Stands too. The stand awakened in Jotaro's mother Holly begins to slowly kill her, so Jotaro must find and stop Dio as it's the only link he has to stop this happening. Along the way to Egypt the crusaders encounter other Stand users that they must fight to move along and get more information about Dio.

Characters

Stardust Crusaders follows 6 protagonists- Jotaro Kujo,Joseph Joestar,Muhammad Avdol,Noriaki Kakyoin, Jean Pierre Polnareff, and Iggy. There are many side antagonists that they fight that aren't significant as characters to write about, and there is the antagonist Dio Brando. The protagonists each have different powers so that when they have the spotlight they feel unique. I don't dislike any of the characters here but I think some are a little boring since not all of them do too much or don't say enough. My favourite character is Joseph who returned from Part 2 of the series for his goofy and witty persona that is a little mellowed in this part as he's aged but is very clearly there. Dio as a villain isn't too interesting in terms of why he does what he does but he's so over the top that he's really memorable and entertaining to watch.

Story
The story is a very simple one but this doesn't make it bad. It's fine seeing as this was the first story in the series that used the idea of Stands. What makes the show fun to watch is the characters that move the story along, so it being simple doesn't matter so much. My biggest issue with Stardust Crusaders that the previous 2 parts don't have is the poor pacing. The last two parts have a much quicker pacing, and the simple story works against the pacing because I felt it took too long. Everything constantly stops whenever a new Stand user appears, so they have to deal with them before moving the plot along.

Conclusion
Stardust Crusaders is a fun 2 seasons of the show to watch thanks to it's characters and the concept of Stands but I felt it was really held back by the pacing, which makes it the worst part out of the first 3 for me.
